When Should a Boiler Be Serviced?

Once a year, every year, here's why annual servicing matters and what actually happens during one.

Boilers should be serviced once a year. It's a short appointment, usually under an hour, but it matters more than it might seem.

Why it matters

  • It keeps your manufacturer's warranty valid, most warranties require proof of annual servicing.
  • It catches small issues (a worn seal, a failing component) before they turn into a breakdown.
  • It confirms the boiler is burning gas safely and isn't producing dangerous levels of carbon monoxide.
  • It keeps the boiler running efficiently, which helps keep your gas bills down.

During a service, a Gas Safe registered engineer checks the boiler's internal components, tests the flue and ventilation, checks gas pressure and burner performance, and inspects for any signs of corrosion or wear. If anything needs attention, you'll be told before any extra work goes ahead.

The best time to book is a month or two before winter, so any issues are sorted before you're relying on the heating every day.
